Young Professionals Group is Seeking New Steering Committee Members!

Are you a young professional between the ages of 21 and 40 looking to get more involved with the Chamber and in the community? If yes, the Rapid City Young Professionals Group (YPG) is seeking individuals to serve on the YPG Steering Committee. This committee determines the overall business plan and goals of the YPG on an annual basis.

To apply for the YPG Steering Committee, download the YPG Steering Committee Application and submit the appropriate documents listed in the application to Nicole Ott at ott@rapidcitychamber.com.

Application deadline is 5 p.m. on August 20.

The Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce is looking to fill their Membership Manager position.

This is someone with a desire to enhance the economic well being and quality of life in the Black Hills area through membership recruitment and retention while representing the Chamber.  This person must be a team player who is motivated, driven and enthusiastic about the services provided by the Chamber.  Must also possess a demonstrated ability to set and meet sales goals with excellent written and oral communication skills.  We offer a competitive compensation package including generous benefits.

YPG seeking Nominations for Young Professional of the Year Award

The Steering Committee for the Rapid City Young Professionals Group (YPG) is looking for nominations for the 2010 Young Professional of the Year Award. This award is presented each year to an outstanding young professional in the Rapid City area who demonstrates vision, professionalism, and involvement resulting in a positive impact on the community.  Nominees will be ranked by the Selection Committee on his or her performance in each of the following focus areas: professional development, civic awareness, community involvement and networking as well as on their accomplishments within the community and advancements in their career.  

Previous Young Professional of the Year Awards Winners include:

2006        Jason Nelson, Creative Car Components

2007        Mark & Michael Linn, Linn Productions

2008        Julie Jones, Rapid City Convention & Visitors Bureau

2009        Ericka Heiser, Ketel Thorsetenson

The award is sponsored by the Young Professionals Group of the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce and is presented each year at the Chamber Annual Meeting which will be held Saturday, September 11.  If you are interested in nominating a YPG member for this award, please fill out the Nomination Form and submit to the Chamber. Submission information is listed on the Nomination Form.

Automatic Revocation for Not Filing Annual Return or Notice

Most tax-exempt organizations, other than churches, must file a yearly return or notice with the IRS. If an organization does not file as required for three consecutive years, the law provides that it automatically loses its tax-exempt status. Loss of exempt status means an organization must file income tax returns and pay income tax, and its contributors will not be able to deduct their donations.

The critical deadline is May 17 for organizations that use the calendar year as their fiscal year. What must be filed this year depends on the organization’s financial activity:
